EASLEY — Behind a gutty performance on the mound by Grayson Ledford, Laurens won for the 4th time in a row with a workmanlike 7-0 victory over Easley on Monday night.
Tuning up for the Class 4A playoffs, which begin next Monday, Jackson Martin and Bennett Edwards each collected two hits, Martin scored three times, and Owen Pridgen and Ben Willis each drove in a pair.
Laurens scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning after Easley starter Levi Recio retired the 1st two batters. Martin singled, Pridgen walked, and Willis’s double drove in both.
Martin also stole two bases.
The Green Wave threatened in the bottom half of the 1st when Ledford walked the bases full with two out but struck out Ayden Beeco. Ledford got out of the inning with three walks, two strikeouts and a sacrifice bunt.
Recio walked Martin, who advanced all the way to 3rd base on a failed pickoff attempt with one out in the top of the 3rd. Willis then walked on four pitches. Martin scored on Edwards’ base hit to left. Hunter Nabors walked. Shortstop Peyton Anders’ error allowed Jack Yarbrough to reach base and Zee Williams, running for Edwards, scored to put Laurens (14-8-1) up, 5-0.
Easley put two on in the 5th on a hit batter and walk, but Ledford got out of the jam when Kaleb Owens flied out to Mason Hamby in left.
Pridgen singled in Hamby and Martin, who had themselves singled, to pad the Raider lead in the 6th inning.
Seth Hill relieved Ledford, who threw 110 pitches, with two away in the 6th. Ledford surrendered more walks (5) than hits (2) and struck out nine.
Easley finally got on the board when Ben Kelley’s single drove in Aaron Tolbert, who had reached on an error.
Edwards pitched the final inning for the Raiders, who visit Greenwood on Tuesday night.
