Here and there, in and out, up and down …

Things are looking up in Laurens County. The District 55 school board took an action.

Elsewhere, it’s life. Some gotta win. Some gotta lose. What goes up must come down. Once playoffs and tournaments get started, one happy team is eventually going to remain.

The dream is very much alive in baseball. Laurens is 2-0 in the Class 4A playoffs, and entering Thursday night, Clinton is 1-0 in 3A. The Raiders play at North Augusta on Friday night at 7. Wren visits the Devils on Thursday night at 6:30.

Clinton boys tennis fell in the Upstate finals and once all season. Daniel won, 5-1, and the Red Devils finished 15-1. Track won Region 4-3A. The golf team finished 2nd to Woodruff. Girls soccer won its 1st-round match. Boys soccer won, too, but fell to Powdersville in the 2nd round. Chapman defeated the softball team in the first round, and Clinton faces an elimination game at Seneca.

Laurens is at the Region 2-4A track meet on Saturday. Laurens softball faces an elimination game Thursday night at home against Easley.

Presbyterian College won the Big South men’s tennis tournament. Baseball and softball are winding down. Volleyball named a new head coach, Steve Benson, without telling anyone publicly the old one left. That’s generally the way the athletics department rolls.

Laurens Academy’s Olivia Huck is an all-state shooter. My guess is it’s skeet and/or sporting clays, but all I knew she could shoot was a basketball.

Undoubtedly, I have neglected some. As noted previously, my cover is no longer comprehensive. I’ll continue to write regularly about subjects that strike my fancy. Otherwise, to borrow from my favorite songwriter-philosopher: “Ain’t no money in it. It’ll lead you to an early grave.”

I’m going to write less, but what I write is going to be better. If you’ve got an idea that’ll strike my fancy, let me know.
