RADFORD, Va. – Presbyterian won its 20th baseball game on Thursday night, playing Radford, which has a snazzy stadium, all synthetic-turfed, and wears snazzy, pin-striped uniforms that do not match the Highlanders’ 9-44 record.

The Blue Hose (20-33, 11-14 Big South) and Highlanders (1-24 conference) were competitive until the late innings, when PC piled up the edge in an 17-3 victory. Radford had the potentially tying runs on second and third as late as the seventh, then fell with a thud. The ninth inning began with PC leading, 5-3.

That was when Presbyterian scored 12 runs.

Second baseman Jack Gorman went 3-4 with a triple. Right fielder Ryan Ouzts, catcher Dalton Reeves and left fielder Joel Dragoo all homered.

Presbyterian collected 14 hits of all varieties. Four cranked doubles. Radford committed six errors.

Duncan Howard (3-4) pitched seven innings. Tanner Smith became one of few pitchers who get saves in a 17-3 game. He entered when it was a 5-3 game.

Right fielder Paul Moore had three of the Highlanders’ nine hits. Zack Whitacre homered.

The Blue Hose had their second 17-run game, the first occurring in a 17-11 verdict over Western Michigan on March 7.

The teams play again at 4 p.m. on Friday at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.
