
RADFORD, Va. – Breaking a nine-game baseball losing streak – eight in the Big South Conference – Radford upended Presbyterian, 6-4, on Friday.
The Highlanders built a 4-0 edge in the first two innings and held on when the Blue Hose loaded the bases in the ninth inning.
PC freshman Amman Dewberry belted two home runs in a losing cause.
Both teams’ seasons end on Saturday with a noon game at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium. Presbyterian (20-34, 11-15) is yet to win the third game of a series versus one opponent this season. The Blue Hose are 0-12 in such contests.
Presbyterian managed to score just four runs on 12 hits, including three by first baseman Chase Hughes and two apiece by second baseman Jack Gorman, shortstop Brody Fahr and Dewberry, the designated hitter.
Shortstop Zack Whitacre, DH Avery Spencer and first baseman Ryan Gilmore each collected a pair of hits for Radford (10-44, 2-24).
Charlie McDaniel (5-8) took the loss for the Hose. Dylan Howard (2-10) was the winning pitcher, and Luke VonGoedert earned his second save.
