Raiders endure another week of stings

Greer rudely dashed Laurens’ hopes for Region 2-4A renewal Friday night, overwhelming the Raiders, 49-7, at K.C. Hanna Stadium.

Laurens lost for the third week in a row to team nicknamed Yellow Jackets: Union County, T.L. Hanna and Greer.

The Yellow Jackets amassed 411 yards of total offense to the Raiders’ 144, led by the crushing performance of Greer’s Ladainnian Martin, who carried the ball 11 times for 214 yards, an average of 19.5 yards a pop. Not surprisingly, Martin scored three touchdowns.

Greer (2-5, 1-0 region) led 34-7 at halftime and tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

Josh Goodwin provided the Raiders’ lone score on a two-yard run in the second quarter.

Greer quarterback Chris Hall completed 9/14 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 55 yards and two TDs on 10 carries.

Ze’Mar Jones led the Raiders with 47 yards in eight attempts. Denari Lee-Jackson had 30 yards in 15 carries, and quarterback Nick Danciu had seven carries for 28 yards.

Danciu connected on 10/15 passes but for only 30 yards.

Greer had the game’s only two turnovers, both fumbles. The Yellow Jackets punted only once.

Goodwin caught four passes for Laurens (0-7, 0-1), which visits Riverside next week in Greer.

Faith Christian (5-2) defeated Laurens Academy (2-5) by a score of 22-6. Ethan Collins led the Crusaders, passing for 103 yards and hitting 12/21 with a touchdown and an interception.

Nathan Bell, with five receptions, and Garrett Murphy combined for nine against the Summerville school.

Parker Workman threw for 140 yards , but that was about it as the Greenville Hurricanes (4-2) hung a 58-6 loss on Thornwell (1-5) l in a game played in Travelers Rest.

The Saints were in negative numbers (-7 yards) in rushing.

Laurens opened its Region 2-4A junior varsity schedule with a 21-20 win at Greer on Thursday night.

The Raiders are 2-3. Riverside visits K.C. Hanna Stadium next Thursday at 6:30 p.m.     

Angelo Cromer scored two touchdowns, one via the rush and the other via a fumble recovery, as the Clinton junior varsity swamped Union County, 48-8, on the road.

The Red Devils led, 28-0, at halftime en route to their 42nd consecutive victory and sixth in a row this season. It was the Region 4-3A opener.

K.J. Vance, Javen James and Lincoln Alexander also scored rushing TDs, and P.J. McGowan caught a touchdown pass.

Our kids prepared well this week, and we were able to come out with a big win,” stated coach Dontavius Glenn. “Our defense played well, and the offense made big plays throughout the night.”

Woodruff visits next Thursday night at 6.
