Ohio is where Presbyterian College’s next shot at a Pioneer Football League victory is to be conducted.
The Blue Hose’ fourth road game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium. Presbyterian (2-3, 0-2 PFL) fell in the final moments at home last week to Stetson, 28-24. Dayton (2-4, 0-3) also seeks its first PFL triumph.
The Flyers and Blue Hose had never met until 2021. Dayton is 2-0 against PC, which has never won an official game in the league. Steve Englehart’s Hose, who have already won twice as many games as last year, are riding an 18-game PFL losing streak.
This could be the week that changes.
After racking up a combined 114 points in back-to-back non-D1 victories, Dayton has slumped to three PFL losses in a row at the hands of San Diego (40-25), St. Thomas (20-14), and most recently, Morehead State in Kentucky, a 31-7 setback.
Dayton, which won eight games a season ago, is riding its first three-game skein since 2017. Trevor Andrews in his first year as head coach.
Ty Englehart subbed for injury-hampered PC starter Tyler Wesley at quarterback against Stetson and connected on 18 of his first 20 passes, the majority to Dominic Kibby and Worth Warner.
Whether led by Englehart or Wesley, PC’s offense ranks third best in the league with an average total-offense output of 362 yards.
PFL members have been involved in four of the FCS’s 14 overtime games in 2023. Marist and Valparaiso became the latest to need extra time to determine a victory in Week 4. It was the second straight time the two teams went to overtime in a game played on Brown Field in Valparaiso. Stetson, Drake and San Diego played an overtime game in non-conference action.

Another way I can derive some revenue is if you purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re quite entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball.
