Thirteen Clinton Red Devils made the all-county football team selected by the Laurens County Touchdown Club.

Clinton (10-3) was the only county team to finish with a winning record, reaching at least the third round of the Class 3A playoffs for the third straight year.

The all-county team will be honored and Player and Coach of the year announced at the TD Club’s annual banquet on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at The Ridge in Laurens.

The nominees for the county’s top player are Kadon Crawford of Clinton, Nick Danciu of Laurens District, Garrett Murphy of Laurens Academy and Kaevon Washington of Thornwell Charter.

Todd Summers, weekend anchor and sports reporter at WSPA-TV 7, is the guest speaker. Tickets are available at the door for $20.

Laurens’ Jayden McGowan has entered the transfer protocol after two seasons at Vanderbilt and announced on social media that he has received offers from South Carolina and Indiana.

The former state track champion caught 80 passes in his career with the Commodores.

After a 4-3 record in the COVID-shortened football season of spring 2021, Presbyterian College fired Tommy Spangler as head football coach.

Since then, Spangler has been a part of 31 victories: 11 as a volunteer assistant coach at Clinton High School in 2021 and 20 (so far) as Furman assistant in the two seasons since.

Greenwood won the girls’ game against Clinton on Monday night, 35-23, on the Eagles’ home court.

Ry’Daijia Mars led the Red Devils with 10 points.

Clinton coach John Gardner said the game was close for most of the way “but we just couldn’t get back in it at the end.”

Greenwood, also 4-0, defeated the Red Devils in the boys’ game, 57-39, pulling away in the second quarter after Clinton led after one.

The Eagles led 29-19 at halftime and continue to pull away. Only Devin Swindler, with 11 points, scored in double figures for Clinton (2-1).

Tushawan Richardson scored eight, Kylen Calhoun five, Denarian Aiken four, M.J. Henderson and Khari Vance three each, and Nyterian Smith and Jalin Massey, each with two.

Four Clinton teams will face Laurens on the Raiders’ home floor on Friday. JV girls play at 4:30, followed by JV boys, varsity girls (at about 7) and varsity boys.

Laurens Academy won its Friday-night girls’ basketball game against New Covenant, 46-45, using well the talents of Olivia Huck, who scored 27 points. The Crusaders (4-1) also got seven points from Rylee Ballard, five from Sadie Bruyere, four from Hannah Ervin and three from Gracie Hall.

Thanks so much for the recent contributions.

I used to list an address to send a check (DHK Sports, P.O. Box 768, Clinton, S.C. 29325). I finally got it through my thick head that not that many people write checks nowadays. For example, me. A more convenient means might be sending a reasonable amount to DHK Sports on Venmo.

Another way I can make a little is if you purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re quite entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball.
