Perhaps the most convincing sign of Presbyterian College’s 118-51 men’s basketball victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian was in the assists column.
The Blue Hose had 28. The Mustangs had eight. Then again, PC had 44 field goals and MACU 17. On further review, it was an all-around wipe-out. PC schooled the Mustangs at Templeton Center on Education Day. The game began on Wednesday at noon. Perhaps owing to the education festivities, the largest home crowd to date (1,007) attended.
Mid-Atlantic Christian resides in Elizabeth City, N.C. It has 173 students. It is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. USCAA might also stand for University of South Carolina Alumni Association. It’s not as well-known. MACU has an official holiday known as Sneak Day.
It wasn’t Wednesday.
PC led, 54-18, at halftime. The lead peaked at 67 with 1:30 to play. The Blue Hose scored 13 seconds into the game and took it from there. In the lane, PC outscored the Mustangs, 58-14, and from the bench, 55-11.
The contrast in statistics could scarcely have been greater. Presbyterian (7-4) shot .698 (44/63) from the floor, .500 (11/22) in three-pointers and .655 (19/29) at the free-throw line. Mid-Atlantic Christian (0-9) shot .340 (17/50), .308 (4/13) and .765 (13/17), respectively. It hit the freebies a tad better.
It would have been much worse had not Joshua Tyler played for the Mustangs. He scored 17 points. No one else had more than seven.
PC outrebounded MACU, 37-20. The Blue Hose forced 18 turnovers and committed three.
Everyone scored. In fact, everyone scored at least four points. Jonah Pierce and Jamahri Harvey each scored 16. Kaleb Scott and Marquis Barnett each collected 15. Kory Mincy and Carl Parrish each had 11. Then the scoring trickled down to A.J. Shaw with 11.
Samage Teel graciously passed out seven assists, as did Trevon Reddish-Rhone. Pierce had twice as many rebounds (8) as anyone else for either team. Barnett swiped five steals.
Saturday’s 2 p.m. home game versus Kennesaw State is likely to be infinitely more competitive.

The great majority of the site’s advertising is in Laurens County. The great majority of contributions is from Furman fans. I would love to get more donations from the county and more advertising from Furman.
But, amazingly, it is what it is.
Thanks so much for the recent contributions.
I used to list an address to send a check (DHK Sports, P.O. Box 768, Clinton, S.C. 29325). I finally got it through my thick head that not that many people write checks nowadays. For example, me. A more convenient means might be sending a reasonable amount to DHK Sports on Venmo.
Support the advertisers, and help keep the site – the game stories, the blogs, the photos – alive by making, if you choose, a monthly donation via Patreon. The Laurens County site is here. The Furman site is here.
Another way I can make a little is if you purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re quite entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball.
