This Saturday finds the Presbyterian College women at Templeton Center to play a crucial Big South Conference basketball game versus the Longwood Lancers of Farmville, Va.

Alternately, the Blue Hose are also playing the Longwood men at 2 p.m., but in Farmville.

A week from Saturday, the time/space continuum will warp when both PC squads play Radford in a Virginia doubleheader.

The Presbyterian women are 11-9, 2-3 in the conference. Longwood is 4-13 but also 2-3 where it counts. The Blue Hose lead the all-time series 16-10.

Whether the game’s tight or not, the PC scoring race likely will be. Mara Neira averages 13.0, Bryanna Brady 12.6 and Tilda Sjokvist 12.1.

Janay Turner leads the Lancers at 12.1.

PC and Longwood have two common conference opponents. The Blue Hose defeated UNC Asheville and lost to Charleston Southern, the Lancers vice-versa.

Two struggling men’s teams meet when the Blue Hose take on the Lancers in the Old Dominion.

Griff Aldrich’s Longwood program is a perennial Big South contender but not so far this year. While 13-7 overall, the Lancers are 1-4 in conference. Since defeating Charleston Southern, Longwood has lost by 11 points to Radford, four to UNC Asheville and two to USC Upstate. The Blue Hose and the Lancers have a win over CSU in common.

Presbyterian (9-11, 1-4) seeks to end a four-game skid. Longwood has lost six of seven.

Marquis Barnett leads the Blue Hose in scoring with an average of 14.3 points per game. Next is Samage Teel (12.4). Jonah Pierce is the rebounding leader at 5.4 per game.

The Blue Hose lead the Big South in shooting percentage at .484.

The Lancers are similarly balanced, led by Walyn Napper (13.8), Johnathan Massie (11.3), Michael Christmas (11.1) and Szymon Zapala (10.8).

In Greer, Jalasia Lewis scored 19 points and led the Yellow Jackets to a 54-35 victory over Laurens in Region 2-4A girls’ basketball.

Greer (7-8, 2-1) led from the outset and gradually built a lead.

Laurens (7-11, 0-3) also had a 19-point scorer, Nyri Allen.

Other Raiders scorers were Destiny Anderson (5), Zoe Young (4), Ty Jones (4), Taliyah Ballard (2) and Faith Jackson (2).

On Friday night the Raider varsity teams bus to Taylors to play Eastside.

The sixth-ranked Greer boys defeated the Raiders, 65-49, behind 15 points apiece by Amare Anderson and Braydyn Durrah.

It was roughly the same story. The Yellow Jackets took an 11-point first-quarter lead. Greer (18-3, 3-0) put the game away in the third quarter with an 18-7 margin.

Jaylen Simpson and Martinez Shaw each scored 10 points to lead Laurens (7-14, 1-2).

Down the line were Tylan Fowler (9), Zee Simpson (6), Nick Danciu (4), Nigere Brown (3), Tyron Bates (3), Tyon Bailey (3), TyJ Jones (2) and K.J. Singleton (2).

Meanwhile, back in Laurens, Eastside met the Raiders in sub-varsity games.

Quin Anderson scored 19 points to lead Laurens to a 39-34 win in JV boys.

Eastside won JV girls, 33-20, though Alayiah Carter put up 10 points for the Raiders.

Josh Boyd’s nine points led Laurens past the Eagles, 45-34, in ninth-grade boys.

At Clinton High, Emma Patterson scored 13 points to lead the JV girls past Emerald, 31-13. The Vikings won the JV boys’ game, 43-37.

The varsity teams are in Greenwood on Friday night to play Emerald.

PC honors its three senior women’s wrestlers in ceremonies before Friday’s final home meet versus Emory & Henry.

Isabella Badon, Sierra Marie Miller and Morgan Norris all have played pivotal roles in the young program’s rise.

I hope you find my coverage entertaining and unique. If so, like the kid whose ball bounces onto an adjoining court, hey, little help?

Thanks so much for the contributions. I’m aware that folks appreciate what I do, particularly the kids, coaches, parents and fans.

Blue, Green, Purple & Red cannot solely be funded by advertising. There’s not enough room.

I used to list an address to send a check (DHK Sports, P.O. Box 768, Clinton, S.C. 29325). I finally got it through my thick head that not that many people write checks nowadays. For examplw, me. A more convenient means is sending a contribution to DHK Sports on Venmo. It keeps the site going, both in the balance sheet and on the road.

Support the advertisers, and help keep the site – the game stories, the blogs, the photos – alive. If you choose, make a monthly donation via Patreon. The Laurens County site is here. The Furman site is here.

Or, indirectly, purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball. I’m closing in on a 10th novel.
