SPARTANBURG – Wofford and Furman played a women’s basketball game on Saturday that looked like it was played outdoors, whereas, Richardson Indoor Stadium is titularly not.

It was cold out there. Wofford was cold. Furman was colder, and the Terriers won, 69-51.

The Paladins fired their first 17 three-pointers awry. On the not very positive side, they hit two of the final nine. Furman (11-8, 1-2 SoCon) shot a season-low .306 (19/62) overall.

The loss was the second straight for the Paladins in a stretch of three SoCon, season- opening road games.

Wofford (10-7, 2-1) fared only slightly better in the shooting department, hitting on just .346 of its shots. The Terriers led by only six after three quarters.

Rachel Rose became the first player in Wofford program history to achieve a triple double by means of 19 points, 16 rebounds and all 11 of the Terriers’ assists.

Evangelia Paulk followed with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Annabelle Schultz scored 13 points, and Indiya Clarke had 12.

Niveya Henley was the lone Paladin to reach double figures with 13 points.

The Paladins suffered 21 turnovers in the contest, which turned into a whistle-fest for much of the second half as Furman was called for 24 fouls and Wofford 19.

Furman managed to claim a 44-39 rebounding edge on the strength of 15 boards by Jada Session, one shy of her career high.

Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Wofford led 49-45. Seventeen consecutive points followed over the next 5:37.

Furman tips off its SoCon home season on Thursday against Samford at 7 p.m.

Take a look at the stats here.

Thanks so much for the contributions. I’m aware that folks appreciate what I do, particularly the kids, coaches, parents and fans.

Blue, Green, Purple & Red cannot solely be funded by advertising. There’s not enough room.

I used to list an address to send a check (DHK Sports, P.O. Box 768, Clinton, S.C. 29325). I finally got it through my thick head that not that many people write checks nowadays. For examplw, me. A more convenient means is sending a contribution to DHK Sports on Venmo. It keeps the site going, both in the balance sheet and on the road.

Support the advertisers, and help keep the site – the game stories, the blogs, the photos – alive. If you choose, make a monthly donation via Patreon. The Laurens County site is here. The Furman site is here.

Or, indirectly, purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball. I’m closing in on a 10th novel.
