
The latest high-school basketball results were about par for the course.
Clinton won big. Laurens Academy won. Laurens High and Presbyterian College didn’t.
John Gardner’s CHS girls pounded Chester (3-12, 1-6), 64-16, for their ninth consecutive victory.
McKenzie Clark and Mylayja Thompson each scored 11 points, and Bryanna Belton added 10.
Also augmenting Red Devil balance were the other scorers: Ry’Daijia Mars (9), Symiah Floyd (8), Kemaria Shelton (7), Emma Patterson (5), Zakalia Redd (2) and Nah’shia Wright (1).
Clinton (17-5, 7-0 Region 4-3A) hosts Emerald on Tuesday night, girls at 6 and boys afterward.
Dontavius Glenn’s Clinton boys (13-7, 7-0) glided past the Cyclones, 79-55.
The Red Devils won all four quarters after essentially putting Chester (4-12, 0-8) away with a 15-5 lead after a quarter.
Tushawan Richardson led the Devils with 19 points, and Denarian Aiken added 13.
Other Clinton scorers were M.J. Henderson (9), Devin Swindler (7), Kadon Crawford (7), Emarian Jones (7), Keleja Byrd (6), Jalin Massey (5), Dirkus Clark (3), Khari Vance (3) and Kylen Calhoun (2).
Clinton’s wrestling team, second in Region 4, take on Palmetto in Travelers Rest in the first round of the 3A playoffs. The winner then takes on the winner of TR-Walhalla.
Wade Hampton (15-7, 6-1 Region 2-4A) defeated the Laurens girls (7-15, 0-7), 79-47, but it wasn’t so simple. The Raiders held a 25-24 halftime advantage.
This performance was a bit undermined by the Generals score 32 straight points and won the third quarter, 34-2.

Regan Buff led the Generals (15-7, 6-1 Region 2-4A) with 34 points that included nine triples.
Zoe Young – a.k.a Zoe Dial or Zoe Dial-Young – led the Raiders with 22 points.
Others scoring were Taliyah Ballard (4), Destiny Anderson (4) and Ty Jones (3).
Armand Flood’s boys traveled a similar path, falling to the Generals, 68-56, after leading 23-15 after a quarter. Then, of course, Wade Hampton (3-16, 1-5) scored 16 points to Laurens’ (7-18, 1-6) in the second quarter.
Jamarion McKinney led the Generals with 18 points.
K.J. Singleton led Laurens with 17 points and TyJ Jones added 16.
Also scoring were Nick Danciu (8), Martineze Shaw (5), Nigere Brown (4), Zee Simpson (3), Tylan Fowler (2) and Jaylen Simpson (1).
The regular season ends blissfully on Tuesday when Eastside visits LDHS.
Like Clinton, Laurens finished second in its region, 2-4A, and faces Catawba Ridge in Greenwood on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the winner advancing to play the host Eagles.
Olivia Huck, reliable as sunshine on a clear day, scored 17 points to lead Laurens Academy (21-2, 10-0) past Cambridge, 49-41. She found the range on 5/8 shots from the field and all six at the line.
Madisyn Graham popped 7/10 shots (2/5 at the line) for 16.
Others scoring were Rylee Ballard (7), Sadie Bruyere (4) and Emily Suttles (2).
It took a 16-5 fourth quarter to rescue the Crusaders, who trailed 36-32 after three periods.
The boys won a ripsnorter, 69-68, over the Cougars, forcing LA (10-15, 7-9) to hang on to its five-point edge entering the fourth quarter. Braydon Burke ripped the nets for 39 points that included nine triples. Garrison Vaughn added 13. Also scoring were Jared Willard (9), Garrett Murphy (5) and Micah Straight (3).
The region tournament – isn’t it great that LA has one? – begins on Tuesday at Wardlaw.

Up in Frostburg, Md., PC’s Madeline Kubicki and Ella Beam combined to go 8-0 and claim titles in a huge women’s wrestling tournament
Alyssa Mahan and Cassia Zammit took bronze medals, and Henley Haynes took a fourth at the aptly named Frostburg Open.
PC’s Coach V, by the way, is Brian Vutianitas.
PC men’s tennis captured the doubles point and four singles crowns in a 5-2 decision over Queens.
The singles conquests went to Javier Matos, Denim Yadav, Pedro Cardoso and David Mamalat. Three of the matches went to third sets.
The victorious doubles wins were at Nos. 1 (Matos-Yadav) and 3 (Cardoso-Evgenios Vasilakis).
The Blue Hose take on Liberty in Lynchburg, Va., on Friday.
