County Signs: Red Devil softball remains undefeated

Clinton High’s softball team remained undefeated, while down the hill, Class 5A J.L. Mann overpowered the Red Devils’ baseball team.

Laurens picked up victories in softball, tennis and boys’ soccer, defeating Clinton in the last sport and playing the Red Devils to a stalemate in girls’ soccer.

Joseph Terry’s Clinton softball team improved to 4-0 with a 10-0 whitewash of Southside Christian, which fell to the Red Devils by a 21-1 margin in two games.

Catcher Halleigh Luke went 3/3 with a triple, scoring three runs. Left fielder Sierra Templeton was also 3/3 with a triple, driving in three runs.

Cat Wilkie was dominant in the circle, hurling a no-hitter with four strikes and nary a base on balls. Sarah Talbert took the loss for the Sabres.

The Red Devils next visit Mid-Carolina on Thursday in Prosperity at 7 p.m.

In Simpsonville, the Raiders outslugged Fountain Inn, 16-14, holding off the Fury after leading 9-3 before a five-run Fountain rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. Laurens (1-2) never trailed.

Summer Nations earned the win, turning in six innings after succeeding Skyla Bates after an inning. Nations allowed 13 hits and 11 runs, nine of which were earned. She walked one and struck out five. Zoey Williams took the loss.

The Raiders piled up 17 hits with doubles by Azaria Johnson, Carly Edwards, Makayden Livingston and Nations. Addison Trevino and Edwards belted home runs. Trevino and Edwards each had four hits, and Nations had three, all at the top of the Laurens order. Livingston and Johnson each collected two hits.

The teams combined for 32 hits and 30 runs.

Halle Baker took the loss, allowing nine runs in four innings. Bethany Brown and Olivia Lieb each had four hits for the Fury (1-1). Brown, Olivia Lieb, Alexa Lieb and Peyton Kinsler all doubled, Olivia Lieb tripled and Kandyce White homered.

J.L. Mann’s three first-inning runs preceded two runs in the bottom half by Clinton (1-3), but the Patriots pulled away with three more runs in the second and five straight one-run innings.

Losing pitcher Carson Glenn suffered a third straight hard-luck loss, allowing four hits in three innings, with only two of the seven runs charged him earned. He walked three and fanned two.

Mann only had six hits but benefited considerably from 10 Red Devil errors. Three Clinton players had two errors apiece. Three Clinton players – Harrison Moore, Carson Glenn and Luke Young – each had a hit, all singles.

Winning pitcher Dawson Siffri collected two hits at the plate. On the mound, he gave up all three Clinton hits, four runs (three earned) and four walks. He struck out six.

Laurens Academy opened its baseball season with a 4-0 victory over Oconee Christian, scoring a run in the first inning and three in the fourth.

Braydon Burke was both the winning pitcher and the only Crusader with two hits. The Warriors had only two hits off four LA pitchers, who walked 10 but struck out 16.

Emerald came from behind to defeat Thornwell (0-4), 10-7, in softball.

Camden Nelson went 2/4 for the Saints, who once led 6-1. Adrienne Anderson homered for TCS.

Laurens picked up a 3-1 victory over Clinton in boys’ soccer, and the Raiders played the Red Devil girls to a scoreless tie.

Greer pays a visit to LDHS on Friday, with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ at 7.

Laurens blanked Fountain Inn, 6-0, in boys’ tennis. Union County visits LDHS on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
