I see a lot of interesting names.
Perhaps my favorite of the spring to date is Presbyterian College baseball player Rhogue Wallace. I’m partial to Clinton softball player Me-Me Smith.
I think of a coach, perhaps even Joseph Terry, asking, “Hey, who wants to pitch?”
“Me! Me! Me! Me!”
Laurens baseball has Ryland Paxton and Asher Goss. That’s a potential law firm.

Hidden in a forest of Glenns, Youngs and Finleys, it’s hard to beat Clinton’s Tanner Kyko.
It’s also hard to go wrong with Laurens Academy’s Evan Asalone. Or Thornwell’s Bear Gunter.
Clinton had Monday to itself, though the Red Devils were playing in Spartanburg at the ancestral home of the Spartanburg Phllies. I once saw Derek Jeter play three games there for the Greensboro Hornets.
I wonder what happens to that yard once the new park is completed.

Clinton spotted Southside Christian an early lead but came storming back to take a 7-5 victory over the Sabres on Monday at cozy Duncan Park, which opened in 1926.
After Southside Christian scored two first-inning runs and led 3-1 after three innings, the Red Devils overcame the deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Second baseman Jaydon Glenn and shortstop Bryce Young each went 2/3 with a run and an RBI. Zane McLendon, who started in center field and closed out the Sabes with two innings on the mound, doubled. Catcher Luke Young tripled and first baseman Harrison Moore homered.
Camden Finley started but walked the first three batters and was replaced by Zack Lawson, who mostly kept the Sabres at bay for four innings.
Clinton (8-6) began the comeback with Luke Young’s leadoff triple in the second inning. Rhett Gilliam, running for the catcher, scored on Jaydon Glenn’s grounder to short.

George Massingill’s single extended Southside Christian’s lead to 3-1 in the third.
Jaydon Glenn singled to lead off the top of the fourth and advanced to second base on Camden Finley’s bunt. Bryce Young laid down a bunt single to moved Glenn to third, and Brett Young repeated the play to drive in Glenn. McLendon wound up striking out, but not before Bryce Young scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
Southside Christian regained a 5-4 edge on Jacob Wigg’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth.

Moore’s leadoff homer to left in the sixth inning tied the score again. Then Luke Young coaxed a walk, and Tanner Finley reached on an error.
Massengill took the loss, but the Red Devils greeted reliever Niles Vaughan with another Bryce Young bunt single, giving Clinton the lead. Brett Young’s sacrifice fly produced the game’s final run.
After a leadoff walk – Cole Tarango reached three times via bases on balls – McLendon nailed down the decision by retiring the next three batters on a strikeout, a flyout and a groundout.
Dixie played Thornwell twice last week, and it did not go well for the fledgling Saints.

The Green Hornets outscored the Saints, 50-0, in the two games. And scored 23 in the first inning of the latter game.
Oh, they’ll get the hang of it in time.
