Blue Hose Blurbs: Something about the Peach State

I haven’t seen anything near a full major-league baseball game on TV. Basketball has dominated my viewing time.

Most of what I’ve noticed is the Phils’ Bryce Harper, whom I watched crash over a rail in one game and hit two homers in another.

The Tigers, Pirates and Brewers are undefeated. The Mets and Marlins are winless. I doubt either status will last.

Maybe I’ll catch Presbyterian against Radford sometime this weekend.

At Atlanta’s Mac Nease Park, not to be confused with McNeese State University of Lake Charles, La., Presbyterian lost by a run yet again to a Power Five school in Georgia.

This time it was Georgia Tech that defeated the Blue Hose, 9-8, in 10 innings on Tuesday evening.

Back on Feb. 27, Georgia defeated PC, 4-3.

In the 10th inning, Tech right fielder Parker Brosius laid down a bunt single, enabling pinchrunner Vahn Lackey to score the winning run.

Center fielder Joel Dragoo and left fielder Jay Wetherington homered for Presbyterian (13-16). It was Dragoo’s eighth blast of the season. Wetherington went 3/5 with two runs scored and three batted in.

The Blue Hose scored seven runs in the first four innings, leading 7-3 at that point.

PC head coach Elton Pollock sent eight hurlers to the mount. Tristan McGregor went the longest, 2-1/3 innings. Tanner Smith (1-1) took the loss.

Georgia Tech (17-10) used a mere six pitchers. The last one, Dawson Brown (1-0) claimed the win.

The leadoff hitter for both teams went 3/5. For the Yellow Jackets, it was also the left fielder, Trey Yunger. Cam Jones, Matthew Ellis, Payton Green and Brosius each had two hits. Ellis homered.

PC’s first Big South series at home commences on Friday at 6 p.m. against Radford.
