Wofford, from the Southern Conference, and High Point, of the Big South, each won baseball games in the NCAA regionals. Neither won another, but it’s damn good for a low major.

The schools that play FCS football prefer to call themselves in other sports as “mid-major,” which they are not. Mid-major is a school such as Tulane or East Carolina, both of which would be similarly insulted.

It’s the same reason I stopped by QT on the way home from Clinton High and chose at the drink fountains between Big, Big Q and Extra Big, all available in foam versions.

My fading generation had grandfathers who served in World War II and parents who grew up in the Elvis 1950s.

It proved a volatile mix.

I haven’t decided whether the civil war is going to be fought over politics or Caitlin Clark.

The NBA Finals begin Thursday night. I still remember who’s playing.

“Gobsmacked.” I think I’ve used it. Now I’m tired of it.

Brown eyes don’t pierce the way blue eyes do. Paul Newman had piercing blue eyes. So does Willie Nelson. When I think of brown eyes, I think of women. Halle Berry. Jennifer Lopez. Sandra Bullock.

I have no idea about the eye color of most people. I notice brown in women and blue in men. I don’t know why. I don’t care why.

Clinton Post 56’s Junior Legion baseball team beat the Tuesday-night thunder by quieting Mid-Carolina, 5-1 at CHS.

The Red Devils managed only four hits – singles by Camden Finley, Graydon Watkins, Avery Barnes and Clayton Kyko – but took full advantage of seven walks issued by three Mid-Carolina pitchers, who also hit three Clinton (2-1) batters.

Clinton pulled gradually away with single runs in the first, second and third innings and three in the fourth.

Angel Vargas and Finley shared the Clinton pitching, with Vargas working the first three and Finley the final four innings. Mid-Carolina’s only hit was a single by Landon Wicker off Vargas, who also walked two and struck out three. Finley surrendered only a walk and fanned five.

Clinton visits Mid-Carolina at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Prosperity. The next home game is on June 20 versus Ridge Spring-Monetta.

Danielle Delio is the new Clinton volleyball head coach. A biology teacher, Delio rises from varsity assistant. She is a physical education graduate of Lander and has a masters from Columbia College.

She was once athletics director at Gray Court-Owings Middle School and moved to Clinton after earning her teaching certification in biology.

Brooke O’Shields, who is a Clinton native, is the new junior varsity volleyball coach.

Support the advertisers. They are all fine people who appreciate my attempts to restore coverage of local sports. They are dependable, and not too long ago, I sold a couple ads to folks who weren’t. I am thus cautious.
