

Presbyterian played its heart out on Saturday afternoon against High Point in men’s basketball at Templeton Center.
Strong effort is a hallmark of the Blue Hose. It’s winning that typically eludes Quinton Ferrell’s team. The Panthers took control and won, 84-72, after PC threatened in the waning minutes.
High Point (19-5, 7-2 Big South) led by 17 points early in the second half, but a Kory Mincy 3-pointer brought PC within a point (70-69) with 5:01 remaining. Presbyterian (9-15, 2-7) never led after the first 19 seconds.

D’Maurian Williams led the Panthers with 20 points.
Mincy led all scorers with 24 points while connecting on a career-high five 3-point field goals. Jamahri Harvey scored 17 points, and Kobe Stewart added 12 while dishing out seven assists.
The Blue Hose have dropped three straight and seven out of eight games. USC Upstate visits Templeton Center on Wednesday.

At High Point, the Panthers took care of the PC women, 62-43, on Saturday night, featuring a balanced scoring attack.
Four – Jaleesa Lawrence (14), Nakyah Terrell (12), Shakira Baskerville (12) and Navaeh Zavaleh (11) – scored in double figures for High Point (12-10, 7-2 Big South).
Paige Kindseth led PC (4-18, 2-7) with 13 points.
The Panthers distanced themselves from the Blue Hose in the third quarters after leading by eight points after both the first and second quarters. High Point open with two quick triples and led, 47-29, entering the final quarter.

The Blue Hose will stay on the road for a battle with USC Upstate in Spartanburg on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Laurens comfortably captured the county championship in basketball as the Raiders swept Clinton on their home floor Saturday evening, following up victories last month in Clinton.
Zoe Young scored 15 points in the 40-31 girls’ victory over the Red Devils. Michael Cade’s Raiders are 11-11. John Gardner’s Red Devils, led by Bryanna Belton with nine points, are 15-5.
Laurens led 17-16 at halftime and took tenuous control with a 10-4 third quarter. Nyri Allen joined Young in double figures for the Raiders with11.
Laurens (16-7) pulled away late to win, 63-50, in the boys’ game after playing to a 25-all tie at halftime. The Raiders broke it open with an 18-9 third-quarter bulge. Q Watts led the Raiders with 24 points with 24 points, followed by TyJ Jones with 19.
Similarly, Tushawan Richardson led the way for Clinton (10-7) with 25, and Devin Swindler added 19.
It was a hot time at Laurens District High School on Friday night, too, as the Raiders split Region 1-4A games against Wren.

Trailing 39-27 entering the final quarter, the Laurens girls roared back with a frantic fourth-quarter man-to-man and defeated the Hurricanes, 50-47. Zoe Young led the comeback and finished with 19 points. Laurens is 10-11 and 4-3 in Region 1.
Wren’s 63-57 victory in the boys’ game was due in no small part to the fact that three Laurens starters fouled out in in the fourth quarter. The Raiders are 15-7, 4-3 in region 1, and are headed to Westside on Tuesday.

It wasn’t much of a contest in Columbia Friday night. The clock ran constantly in the second half. Clinton’s girls’ basketball team beat Columbia High, 50-5, anyway.
Zion Henry scored all five of the Capitals’ points. The halftime score was 31-0.
McKenzie Clark led the Red Devils (15-5, 5-0) with 10 points. Everyone scored. Columbia is 0-15 and 0-6 in Region 3-2A. Clinton won the earlier game, 63-11.

Richardson scored 21 points, Swindler 18 and Christian Jones 12 in the boys’ 74-51 victory over the Capitals. Clinton visits Chester on Tuesday.
Laurens advanced through the first two rounds of the Class 4A wrestling playoffs on Saturday, pounding Lancaster, 64-10, and A.C. Flora, 58-20.
Travelers Rest visits LDHS Monday night in round three.

Greenville Tech Charter took a pair of basketball contests at Laurens Academy on Saturday, with the girls edging the Crusaders, 39-37, and the boys winning, 40-12.
Brooklyn Senn and Sadie Bruyere each scored eight points for the girls. Micah Straight scored four for the boys.

Abbeville swept Thornwell but the Panther girls had to work for their 37-34 verdict. Ally Jeter scored 21 points as the Saints led, 21-15, at halftime.
Abbeville won the boys’ game, 78-40.
