NORTH CHARLESTON – Presbyterian scored 11 points in the final 30 seconds of a men’s basketball game on Wednesday night. It would have been a lot of points for the final frame of a bowling match.
Yet the Blue Hose lost, 71-70.
Presbyterian trailed Charleston Southern, 66-59, with 30 seconds on the clock. In that remaining half minute, the Blue Hose got two free throws from Kory Mincy, a layup from Jaylen Peterson and four made free throws from Carl Parrish. The Buccaneers scored five points in the same 30 seconds.
Incredibly, three seconds remained on the clock, and PC (10-16, 3-8 Big South) had an in-bounds from the baseline of its own basket. Mincy caught the pass with a relatively uncontested 12-foot shot in the lane.
It bounced harmlessly off the rim.
Only the Blue Hose. They are 1-12 on the road.
A 15-2 run by Charleston Southern had given the Bucs a 59-48 lead with 4:55 remaining.
Three Charleston Southern (10-17, 6-6) players scored well into double figures.
Taje Kelly pumped in 28 points, Daylen Berry added 17 and Lamar Oden Jr. scored 15. Oden’s father was once a star at Chattanooga and played professionally in Germany. His cousin Greg was a first-round NBA draft pick.
Mincy and Kobe Stewart each scored 19 points for the Hose. Kaleb Scott added 12. PC amassed a 24-6 edge in points off turnovers.

Support the advertisers. They are all fine people who want their businesses associated with honest coverage of local sports. I appreciate them sticking with me as I get back up to speed.
I’m getting a little stronger, but I tire easily. Energy remains a problem.
In the off chance you’d like to read my novels and other books, they’re available on Amazon and many prominent bookseller sites.
You can read them on your phones and other devices for a modest cost. I make a bit more if you purchase the actual books, but what I mainly want is for folks to read them.
Illness has left me with some additional expenses. I hope to sell off some memorabilia I’ve accumulated over the years. First I’ve got go get well.
Cowboys Come Home is a novel about a couple of young Texans home from World War II. Texas has changed in their absence.
Thanks for putting up with me.
