In Clinton High School’s last eight baseball games, the Red Devils have outscored their opponents, 88-15, with four shutouts.

On Tuesday evening, Clinton (10-2, 4-1 Region 3-2A) drew swiftly away from Chester (5-7-1, 2-1), winning, 13-0, in a game limited to five innings by the Red Devils’ dominance.

At the plate, senior Jaydon Glenn went 3/3 with a double and a triple and four runs batted in. On the mound, he allowed one hit (the Cyclones’ only hit) with five strikeouts.

Second baseman Angel Vargas homered deep to left. Like his cousin, right fielder Owen Glenn doubled and tripled, driving in three. Shortstop Logan Johnson doubled twice, scoring after each. Catcher Luke Young doubled in two.

It was a hit parade. The Red Devils batted .500. Eight of their 11 hits went for extra bases.

The reliever who followed Jaydon Glenn, Zack Lawson, faced six batters and struck five of them out.

Chester’s first batter, center fielder Hudhaifah Taylor, doubled on a 2-2 count. That was it. Jaydon Glenn and Lawson retired the Cyclones’ remaining 15 batters.

Cory Bland, the Chester starter, surrendered 12 runs (eight earned) with a walk and two hit batters. The good news was that he mostly threw strikes. That was the bad news, too.

Tho Thurmond-Clinton game scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. Clinton visits Chester on Friday at 6.

Smith belted two homers. Both Kuykendall hits were doubles. Snelgrove tripled. Watkins doubled.

Taralyn Shellenberger homered for the Cyclones. Chester’s other nine hits were all singles.

Presbyterian (6-24) won on the road for only the second time all season and edged Western Carolina (18-12) in Cullowhee, N.C., 6-5, in baseball.

Matthew Rollison’s seventh-inning double gave the Blue Hose a 6-2 lead. Wyatt Stanley’s home run in the bottom of the ninth inning brought the Catamounts within a run.

Jeremiah Hampton nailed down his first save. Tucker Meredith (1-2), the second of six PC hurlers, earned the decision over WCU starter Taylor Oaks (2-2).

The Blue Hose visit Charleston Southern for a Big South series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
