By MONTE DUTTON Click here. Some play football because they love it. Some play because it runs in the family and is expected of them, some because girls seem to like it. Some like to hit and not be hit. Some just love to get after it. It has been Buddy Bridges’ frequent observation that …

Rahl picks up pieces left by Englehart’s departure
Matt Rahl coached the offensive line in two years on Steve Englehart's staff (Monte Dutton photo). Coming off one of the great seasons in Presbyterian College football history, athletics director Dee Nichols and those around her saw no need to reinvent the wheel, or the wheel route, for that matter. Following two seasons on Steve …

By MONTE DUTTON Matt Rahl (PC photo) Presbyterian College announced the results of its “nationwide search” on Monday morning. A bowl a day keeps basketball away
By MONTE DUTTON Click here. First of all, there are not too many bowl games. Let’s clear that up right away. The appropriate number is not what I want to see. It’s how many it takes to fill all ESPN programming. If ESPN wants San Juaquin Polytechnic to play the Southeast Vermont Syrup Makers in …

On Tuesday, Englehart reportedly accepted the job at West Georgia University in Carrollton, Ga. This, of course, is no surprise. This is what happens at PC after winning seasons. Dustin Kerns had a winning …
A bad way to start the week
By MONTE DUTTON Click here. In 1991, Rodney King said, “Can’t we all just get along?” In Matthew 5:19, Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” I don’t like Mondays. They make me catch up when I don’t want to. I spend most of the time on weekends …
Gardner’s girls keep on rolling
By MONTE DUTTON (Monte Dutton photos) Click here. So far, so good. Girls’ basketball at Clinton High School is first in war, first in peace and first in Class 2A, according to the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association. The Red Devils, led by head coach John Gardner, improved to 9-0 with victories over Belton-Honea Path, 46-34, …
Bill Anderson … in my dreams
By MONTE DUTTON Click here. Bill Anderson is one of the great songwriters in country-music history. I dreamed I had a conversation with “Whispering Bill” last night. Back in the NASCAR days, I bumped into well-known figures – Michael Jordan, John Prine, Dick Riley, Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas, Barney Frank – at airports. This is …
