On the home court, the ultimate result was the same Monday night as Greenwood repeated its basketball victories over Clinton from last week, but Dontavius Glenn’s boys’ team put a scare in the Eagles before falling, 67-59.
Greenwood had won, 57-39, on Dec. 4.
This time Clinton (3-2) trailed by 11 points at halftime, chipped away in the third quarter and got within two points (45-43) after roaring out of the locker room on a 13-4 run. The Red Devils spent most of the fourth quarter hovering within range but ultimately fell short.
Greenwood’s C.J. Terrell and Clinton’s Tushawan Richardson were worth the price of admission alone. Terrell scored 26 points without the benefit of a single three-pointer, and Richardson popped 23 while including two of them.
Each team had one more scorer in double digits: Nathan Moore added 16 to the Eagles’ total, and Nyterian Smith had 11 for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils hit 21/51 field goals (.392); the Eagles, 21/48 (.438). Greenwood forced 22 Clinton turnovers while committing 18. Clinton canned 8/10 free throws, Greenwood, 18/24. Moore was 10/12 himself.
The Eagles (6-1) outrebounded the Red Devils, 30-27.
Also scoring for Clinton were M.J. Henderson (9), Dre Aiken (7), Z Butler (3), Keleja Byrd (2), Emarian Jones (2) and James Anderson (2).

Greenwood overwhelmed the Clinton girls, 49-21, led by 15 points from Danielle Oliver and 13 from Cameron Oliver, who could be related.
Mylayjia Thompson led Clinton (4-3) with 10 points.
Greenwood (9-0) led 14-4 after a quarter, 26-9 at halftime and 44-12 after three quarters.
Clinton (4-3) committed 28 turnovers, hit 8/30 field-goal attempts (.267) and was 2/6 at the free-throw line. Greenwood’s rebounding edge was only 26-24, but the Eagles attempted 19 more shots and hit 13 more, shooting .429.
Other Clinton scorers were Ry’Daijia Mars (4), Bryanna Belton (4) and Haleigh Luke (3).
Greenwood won the earlier game, 35-23.
Fountain Inn won its Monday-night games against visiting Laurens.
The Fury defeated Laurens (4-5), 40-24, in the girls’ game and, 58-47, in the boys’ game. The Laurens boys are 2-7. The girls are 4-5.
The Laurens boys trailed throughout but got as close as six points in the fourth quarter.
Fountain Inn’s Amazia Jenkins scored 19 points. TyJ Jones led the Raiders with 20 and Martinez Shaw added 11.
The remainder of the Raider scoring came from Zee Simpson (8), Tylon Fowler (7), Nick Danciu (7) and B.J. Byrd (2).
By all accounts, Clinton’s Kadon Crawford performed well and had an excellent time playing for the North in Saturday’s Touchdown Energy Bowl in Myrtle Beach.
The South won the instate all-star game, 28-8.
Another Red Devil, Zavarion Johnson, represents the state as the Sandlappers take on the Tarheels this Saturday in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas at Spartanburg High School at 1 p.m.
Johnson is committed to play next fall at the University of Cincinnati.
Presbyterian’s Kory Mincy is Big South Freshman of the Week in men’s basketball. The East Point, Ga., native scored 11 points and distributed three assists in the Blue Hose’ 65-60 loss to Florida A&M.
PC takes on Mid-Atlantic Christian on Wednesday at noon in a special Education Day matinee at Templeton Center, beginning at noon.
The great majority of the site’s advertising is in Laurens County. The great majority of contributions is from Furman fans. I would love to get more donations from the county and more advertising from Furman.
But, amazingly, it is what it is.
Thanks so much for the recent contributions.
I used to list an address to send a check (DHK Sports, P.O. Box 768, Clinton, S.C. 29325). I finally got it through my thick head that not that many people write checks nowadays. For example, me. A more convenient means might be sending a reasonable amount to DHK Sports on Venmo.
Support the advertisers, and help keep the site – the game stories, the blogs, the photos – alive by making, if you choose, a monthly donation via Patreon. The Laurens County site is here. The Furman site is here.
Another way I can make a little is if you purchase my books at MonteDutton.net. They’re quite entertaining in spite of the fellow who wrote them. Two of my novels, Cowboys Come Home and Lightning in a Bottle, are available in audio versions. The latest, The Latter Days, is about baseball.
